This presentation will focus on research conducted in Australia on behalf of the New South Wales Teachers Federation (NSWTF) that will be matched with research conducted by the by the Canadian Association of Principals in collaboration with the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA). The aim of the research was to explore teacher and school leader concerns regarding the scale and impact of the commercialisation they saw in their public schools. The data presented will tell very different stories about what is seen to be happening in Australia and NSW on the one hand, and Canada and Alberta on the other. Participants will be asked to contribute their experiences and advance possible hypotheses for how Canadian school leaders understand and approach commercialisation in public education.
