'Thank goodness you are a man!': troubling gender and principal leadership in elementary schools

This presentation examines whether one's gender affects the way one leads his/her school. Does the gender of the principal matter? We like to think that one's gender does not matter, or at least, should not matter, however upon close examination and analysis of interviews with principals in the Greater Toronto Area, an interesting narrative is revealed.

Ken MacKinnon is an elementary principal with the Toronto District School Board. He is in the process of completing his doctoral degree at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. He is interested in the manner in which gender intersects with principal leadership.
