This session will open up an important conversation about women in leadership. A large body of peer reviewed research continuously finds that high-achieving women experience social backlash because their very success. Specifically the behaviours that created that success violates our expectations about how women are supposed to behave. This session will focus on how senior leaders must navigate the multiple responsibilities and constituencies of their roles. We will identify the unique leadership challenges and opportunities facing women in education today and come to understand when and how gender plays a role in both organizational and personal advancement.

Executive Staff Officer, Teacher Employment Services, Alberta Teachers' Association
Shelley Magnusson is an Executive Staff Officer in the Association's Teacher Employment Services area. Prior to joining the ATA in 2012, Shelley worked as a middle school teacher, principal, Alberta Education program manager and education outreach manager with APEGA.
